Oven Cleaning in Peterborough: Is Your Oven Door Glass Hiding Grease?

Oven cleaning in Peterborough is a job many of us put off, because the grease builds up slowly and the door keeps it out of sight. Then one day you open the oven, or look through the glass, and it is hard to see your food at all. If your oven door glass is hiding a secret, this guide covers what builds up, why it matters and what a proper oven clean involves.

What gets missed when you clean an oven

Wiping the hob and the front of the oven is quick. These are the parts that tend to be left:

  • The door glass. Grease splashes bake onto the inside of the glass, and the inner pane can be hard to reach.

  • The shelves and racks. Drips and burnt-on bits collect on them and on the runners they sit in.

  • The oven floor. Spills dry on and darken over time, as the photo above shows.

  • The corners and edges. Grease settles where a cloth does not reach.

Why a dirty oven matters

Baked-on grease builds up fast, and the longer it stays, the harder it sets. A dirty oven can smoke or smell when it heats up, and it makes cooking less pleasant. It also makes it harder to see how your food is doing through the glass.

Cleaning is much easier when the build-up is thin. Left for a long time, it takes more effort and more time to shift.

What a proper oven clean involves

Our oven cleaning page lists what the service includes. In plain terms, a proper oven clean works through these steps:

  1. Take out the detachable parts. Shelves, racks and other removable components come out so each can be cleaned on its own.

  2. Clean the inside. The walls, roof and floor are worked on until the grease, grime and burnt-on residue are gone.

  3. Clean the door and glass. The door and glass are checked and cleaned, so you can see through them again.

  4. Clean the outside. The exterior is wiped down so the whole oven looks cared for.

  5. Put it back and finish. Everything is put back together and given a final polish.

The result is what you see on the right of the photo: clear glass, clean racks and a clean base.

Tips to keep your oven cleaner between cleans

  • Wipe up spills once the oven has cooled, rather than letting them bake on.

  • Take the racks out and wash them every so often, rather than waiting until they are coated.

  • Cover roasting dishes with a lid where you can, to cut down on splashes.

  • Never use cleaning products in a hot oven, and keep the room ventilated when you do clean.

  • Check the manufacturer's instructions on abrasive pads on the glass or the enamel.

If you want to know how often an oven needs cleaning, our guide on how often ovens should be cleaned goes through it, and the post on the best way to clean ovens without damaging them has more on the topic.

Oven cleaning FAQs

How often should I get my oven cleaned?

It depends on how much you cook. If you roast or grill often, grease builds up faster. A good rule is to clean it when the glass starts to cloud or you notice a smell, rather than waiting until it is heavily coated.

Can I clean the oven door glass myself?

You can wipe the outside easily. The inner glass is harder, because of the way many doors are built. Check your manufacturer's instructions if you plan to take a door apart, and ask for help if you are unsure.

Is oven cleaning worth doing ahead of a move?

It is worth including. The oven is one of the things a landlord or letting agent may check, and it is one of the hardest jobs to do yourself at the end of a busy move.

Do you clean ovens for businesses?

Yes. The oven cleaning service is available for homes and for businesses. Get in touch with details of what you have and we can talk it through.
