Microwave Cleaning in Peterborough: The Inside, the Plate and the Buttons
Microwave cleaning in Peterborough is a small job that tends to get forgotten. Most of us wipe the outside and carry on, but the inside, the glass plate and the buttons are the details most people miss. Be honest, when did you last wipe yours?

What gets missed on a microwave
A microwave is one of the most used appliances in the kitchen, and one of the least cleaned. These are the places that tend to be skipped:
The inside walls and ceiling. Splashes dry onto them every time something bubbles over.
The glass plate. It collects spills and crumbs, and the ring underneath can hold dirt.
The door and seal. Food and grease catch around the edges, where the door closes.
The buttons and handle. They pick up fingerprints and grease from busy hands.
The top and sides. Dust and grease collect on the outside too.
Why it matters
Food splashes that are left will bake on a little more each time the microwave is used, and they get harder to remove. A dirty microwave can also hold old food smells, which is not what you want when you are heating your lunch. And because the buttons and handle are touched many times a day, they are worth wiping regularly.
A quick wipe every week or so is far easier than scrubbing hard-set splashes once a month.
How to clean a microwave properly
Always unplug the microwave first, and let it cool if it has just been used. Then:
Take out the plate and ring. Wash them in warm soapy water and dry them well.
Loosen the splashes. Heat a microwave-safe bowl of water for a few minutes, then leave the door closed for a short while. The steam helps to soften dried-on food.
Wipe the inside. Use a damp cloth on the walls, ceiling and floor, working from the top down.
Clean the door and seal. Wipe the inside of the door and the edges where it closes.
Wipe the controls and handle. Use a lightly damp cloth, and do not let water run into the buttons.
Dry and replace. Dry the inside, put the plate and ring back, and check the plate sits properly.
Wipe the outside. Finish with the top and sides.

Microwave cleaning FAQs
How often should I clean my microwave?
A quick wipe weekly is ideal, with a fuller clean when you notice splashes or smells.
Is it safe to clean a microwave with water and steam?
Heating a bowl of water is a common way to loosen residue, but use a microwave-safe bowl and take care when you remove it, because it will be hot.
Can I put the glass plate in the dishwasher?
Many plates can go in, but check your manufacturer's instructions first, as some cannot.
Does a microwave clean come with a kitchen clean?
It can. Tell us what you would like included when you get in touch.
What should I avoid when cleaning a microwave?
Avoid abrasive scourers, which can scratch the inside, and keep water out of the controls and vents. Never run a microwave empty, and never put metal inside it.
